Drainage membranes
Known, that when properly planning a future residential building and the adjacent site, not only the issue of draining excess moisture from the soil of the site is carefully thought out, but also the issue of protecting the underground structure of the house. Today, for this purpose, various foreign technologies and developments are widely used in the construction market of our country.. But still, the most common way to protect the foundation of a building is the installation of profiled membranes, made from polyethylene. Profiled membranes are also used to improve the reliability of drainage systems.
Advantages of a drainage membrane
No one will deny the undeniable advantages and versatility of this material.:

- protection against ground movement,
- separation of soils of various properties.
Also drainage membrane widely used in the construction of green roofs and artificial ponds. The material is, from which they are made (high strength polyethylene), provides durability in operation for many decades and is highly resistant to various chemicals.

What is a membrane??
It resembles a profiled sheet, over the entire area of which, at equal distances from each other, there are truncated cone-shaped protrusions of small size. The height of the cones varies mainly from 7,5 to 20 mm. The average area of one profiled sheet is approx. 40 square meters.

In the field of drainage systems, membranes are used in which a filtering geotextile layer is applied on the side of the protrusions. In this case, the membrane is installed along the vertical base of the building in this way, so that the protrusions are adjacent to the foundation, and a layer of geotextile to the ground. As a result, the geotextile forms a thin air layer between the membrane and the soil, ensuring the removal of excess moisture into the drainage system.
With proper installation of the membrane, the foundation of your home is completely safe and completely protected from excess dampness. Sure, everything is much simpler, if you thought about the installation of drainage systems in advance, when planning a future home project. But, Unfortunately, it also happens, that this rather sensitive issue was not taken into account in the project.
Excess soil moisture makes its way into the basement. During the dry season it still seems tolerable, but in the spring, when the snow melts there is no escape from dampness and water. In such cases, only installing an internal drainage system can save. Pipes or special trays are laid on the floor surface with an angle 3-5 degrees. Installed pipes lead to a special storage tank, to which the pump is routed. Profiled membranes are installed along the basement walls and floors in this way, so that the protrusions are located towards the structures, forming a hollow layer, through which excess water flows through installed pipes into a storage tank and is pumped out by a pump. As a result, the problem of excessive dampness in basements is solved.
Today, “green roofs” are very popular.. In this case, the installed membrane is also capable of performing a large number of functions. Among some of them: drain function, waterproofing and moisture charging. Membranes are used in this area, whose protrusions are higher, near 20 millimeters. They are installed on the waterproofing layer like this:, so that the protrusions are located downwards. Excess water flows to drainage systems. And the protrusions in the surface of the membrane are capable of accumulating water, necessary for plants in case of lack of moisture.
